It was a pleasure to be able to help after receiving a call from a distressed customer, who explained that her elderly father was locked out of his house in Herne Bay. She informed us that she actually had a key but could not operate the lock because, as is normal in this instance, her father’s key was already fully inserted into the internal side of the lock. As a result, the key is not able to operate the lock and retract the locking latch on the multipoint locking system leaving the customer locked out.
On arrival, we were quickly able to gain totally non-destructive entry into the house using specialist lock bypass methods – getting our customer back into his house quickly and efficiently. Our customer also expressed her concern that this might happen again to her elderly father and asked if there was anything we could do to prevent this. Understanding the issue completely, we were able to offer our customer a replacement lock which is operated by a thumb turn internally, whilst requiring a key to operate the lock from the outside. This means, that while the locking latch has to be retracted by the key for access from the outside, there is no possibility of leaving a key in the lock internally since the thumb-turn lock works in a different manner. This means that our customer could assist her father, if necessary, in the future without having to call out a locksmith.
